The power of nostalgia – alumni campaign wins gold

We are proud to announce that a campaign created by our Office of Development and Alumni Relations (ODAR) has been awarded Gold in the Circle of Excellence Awards run by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

The campaign, known as Replay, is a world-first engagement piece, encouraging our alumni to indulge in a nostalgic look back by sharing the song that reminds them most of their time here at Southampton.

Replay is a bold step in the right direction, aiming to connect with our alumni through an exciting collaboration with music-streaming service Spotify.

Asking alumni the question: “Which track takes you back?”, the collaboration resulted in an alumni playlist, with songs that evoke a university memory every time they hear it. Baywatch, Journey, Joni Mitchell and Tinie Tempah is the evolving soundtrack of our alumni community.

Are you one of our many staff members who are also alumni? Have you told us which track takes you back? Don’t miss your chance to get involved and share the soundtrack of your student days – head over to the Replay website now to take part.

Jo Donahoe, Director of Development & Alumni Relations, said:

“This is the highest international accolade we have ever received for our alumni communication. We are thrilled! With over 230,000 former students around the world, our alumni are a vital part of our University community and their engagement and pride in Southampton matters.”

The novel use of multimedia as part of the campaign impressed the CASE judges, who noted that it showed a great understanding of our alumni community.

Huge congratulations to ODAR and other members of our University for this fantastic achievement.
