Whether you’re in the city or travelling between our campuses, we’ve put together some helpful advice to keep in mind when you’re out and about.
Be aware of your surroundings
If you’re walking around our campuses or the city, make sure you’re aware of your surroundings, whether you’re out during the day or at night. Make sure you’re not listening to loud music or getting distracted by your phone, and always be careful when crossing the road.
Stick to well-used routes, try not to take short cuts through parks or anywhere that looks dark or deserted.
Avoid carrying large amounts of cash or valuables on you when you’re travelling. If you’re studying on campus or in one of the libraries, make sure to keep your laptops and other valuables with you at all times and don’t leave valuables, such as phones or bags unattended.
Plan how you’re travelling
You can find some information about how you can get around below:
- Bus: Unilink provide regular bus services between campuses and halls up to 00:30. If you travel between Highfield and Winchester School of Art (WSA), you can get the WSA Shuttle Bus.
- SUSU Safety Bus: The Students’ Union Safety Bus. Note: this service runs during term time only.
- Taxis: Radio Taxis have a handy mobile app where you can pay by card should you find yourself with no cash.
- Uber: Make sure the driver, vehicle and registration is the same as what’s showing on the app. Find out how to stay safe while riding with Uber here.
Cycle safe
If you cycle, make sure to wear a helmet and high-visibility clothing and ensure that your bike lights are turned on if you’re travelling at night.
