Our Post and Portering team is working to reduce our carbon footprint by replacing diesel vans with electric alternatives.
In order to process requests across our various sites, the team needs access to vehicles. They utilise five vans for post collection and distribution, delivery of courier goods, moving furniture and various other activities.
Two of the five vehicles are electric, and over 50 per cent of the combined mileage is now electric. Plans are already in place to replace the smaller of the three remaining vans with an electric vehicle, with a further aim to replace the remaining diesel vans with electric options as the technology for larger vehicles progresses.
The department teamed up with the Hartley Library to make use of the electric library vehicle, allowing them to combine their delivery routes, thereby reducing overall mileage and resulting in a transfer from diesel mileage to greener electric miles.
