‘The Clarkson Rest and Study Room’ is a dedicated space for students with long-term health conditions, mental health conditions or disabilities, and is located within the Nuffield Theatre, Highfield Campus.
Originally funded through the ‘Clarkson Foundation’ in 1979, the room is an invaluable asset to our University, providing students with a calm and quiet space that they can use to help manage their condition as well as rest and study.
The Clarkson Room has recently been refurbished, using feedback from students who use the room.
Taking our student feedback into consideration, the following improvements have been made:
- An increase from three to four separate rooms with an additional open plan study area.
- Better sound insulation and redecorated in calm, neutral colours.
- Addition of new furniture, including sofas for students to rest on and lockers for students to store their belongings.
- Upgraded computers with dual screens and laptop connections with extra power outlets.
- Enabled Wi-Fi and added a local printer.
- Ergonomic chairs and height-adjustable desks.
- Enabled ID card access.
- The room has been renamed (previously known as The Clarkson Room) to better reflect its purpose.
Enabling Services has already received positive feedback about the new Clarkson Rest and Study Room and the improvements should make a noticeable and positive impact on the student experience here at Southampton.
