Preparation for Clearing 2019

In the lead up to A-Level Results Day tomorrow (Thursday 15 August), colleagues from across our University are gearing up towards an exciting and very busy period.

Advertising

As part of our national Clearing marketing campaign, we have created animated digital advertising as part of our outdoor adverts across Southampton, Portsmouth, Exeter, Bournemouth, Bristol, London, Basingstoke and Birmingham.

Our animated advertisements are new for this year and help to achieve a new, interactive way to reach our audience.

We will be running advertising throughout August using Google Ads to highlight our course vacancies. We don’t pay Google for our adverts to appear on their search engine result pages but instead we pay when someone clicks on our advert. To ensure we get the most from this element of the campaign could we ask colleagues not to click on these adverts.

Student stories

Clearing can be a stressful time for students as well as their families, so this year our marketing campaign focuses on current students who came to our University through Clearing and found it a positive and supported experience, as well as the stories from their family’s perspective.

Listen to stories from Emily’s parents’ as well as from Jorge and Daniel below:

Our list of courses

The list of courses available to prospective students in this year’s Clearing period has been available online for the past few weeks and these are being updated following intake review meetings, in preparation for A level results day. We are offering a limited number of places for talented and well-qualified candidates across a number of subject areas.

What happens if a prospective student calls you?

Should a prospective student contact you, please direct them to the University Clearing website where they can find out about relevant opportunities, register for Clearing alerts in the run-up to Results Day, or apply online from Thursday 15 August. Alternatively, they can call our Clearing hotline on 0330 058 6940.

We expect a high volume of calls to the hotline over the Clearing period and these will be carefully managed through a queuing system. To provide the best service to our prospective students please ask them to use the hotline number or apply online; don’t attempt to transfer the call internally.

On clearing day we would like to ask all University staff to try and minimise incoming line usage for non-clearing use calls by taking callers’ contact details and offering to call them back (which utilises an outgoing line, therefore keeping the incoming lines free).

For queries about accommodation

Should a prospective student enquire about accommodation, please direct them to the Student Services accommodation webpages.

Alternatively, they can call our Accommodation hotline on 02380 595959.

We’ve provided a short video below for students to get advice from other students on navigating the accommodation process:
