We’ve joined a global workplace cycle challenge which starts in September and encourages more people to get on their bikes. Visit the Bike Dr on the redbrick area on Friday 6 September to find out more.
How does the initiative work?
Individuals and workplaces will compete to see who can earn the most points which are earned for every mile and day you ride, plus every person you encourage. The more points you earn, the further you climb up the leaderboards and the better your chances of winning prizes including holidays, bikes, gear, vouchers and much more.
Adam Tewkesbury, Associate Director, Transport & Sustainability says:
“We have 5,500 staff and more than 23,000 students, and travel to and from our campuses is one way we can influence the impact we have on our environment and our carbon footprint.
Encouraging and supporting more sustainable ways of travelling is a key part of the University’s Travel Plan. Cycle September is a really great initiative to encourage people to use their bikes to come to work and be in with the chance of winning a prize too.
If you don’t own a bike or have a bike that is in need of repair, our Travel Plan can help with initiatives such as the Cycle to Work Scheme and Bike Dr. I hope as many people as possible will try cycling during September, and perhaps continue to ride more regularly afterwards.”
How to take part
You can ride anywhere, anytime during September – just a 10 minute ride is enough to take part.
It only takes 30 seconds to register at lovetoride.net/southampton
Read about the facilities we offer staff and students who cycle to and from our campuses on our Transport website.
If you’re staff, tell us how you travel to work by filling in our Travel Plan Survey which launches next Monday 2 September. Look out for the article on SUSSED.
