Welcome – staff briefing

As we ready ourselves to welcome our new students over the next few weeks, we wanted to give you – our staff community – information that will help you play your part in helping our Freshers’ settle in.

Who will be arriving?

Our UoSM students started to join us from Malaysia on 15th September.

From 18th September our international students started to arrive, many of them using our meet and greet services from the airport. Our staff will be at the airport to meet our incoming international students, and there will be a coach service to take them to their accommodation.

UK/EU students arrive on Welcome Weekend tomorrow, Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September.

It is important that we all contribute to welcoming our new students into the UOS community and make their transition to becoming a UOS student a fantastic experience. To help support staff with this we have prepared the FAQ’s below.

FAQ’s

What do students have to do to prepare before they arrive?

The best way for them to prepare is to follow the steps on the Welcome Website https://southampton.likn.co/welcome/

How can I find out what activities are running for students during the first few weeks of term?

The welcome calendar https://southampton.likn.co/welcome-events/  has all the freshers events and students will be directed here to decide which events they wish to take part in.

What’s Welcome Weekend?

Welcome weekend is when the majority of our new students arrive to move into halls. Welcome Weekend activities will be taking place on Highfield Campus across the Redbrick Courtyard and in the Marquee opposite the Students’ Union Building, on both Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd, from 10:00am till 5:00pm.

Welcome Weekend is a great opportunity for students to meet student support teams who will be available to answer questions and advise students on the support available to them at the University of Southampton. They will also be able to collect their  ID card and take part in competitions and win prizes. There will also be refreshments available from a number of the catering outlets on Highfield Campus.

For more information visit the Welcome Profile on the MySoton app.

Where can I direct students who have questions?
