Ian Dunn to leave Southampton at the end of the year

Ian Dunn has announced that he will be stepping down from his role as our Chief Operating Officer in December, after four years at Southampton. He plans next year to embark on a portfolio career which will include extending his activities as a Charity Trustee and Non-Executive Director, and launching his own business.

Ian commented:

“My first experience at Southampton as an undergraduate student was one of the most positive life-changing periods of my life, and these last four years here have been an equal privilege. In parallel, my own interests have evolved in addressing the societal challenges of wellbeing, leadership and sustainability. The desire to commit increasing time and focus to these interests, and how they combine, triggered the immensely hard decision to leave Southampton at the end of this year, but I will do so knowing my University is poised like never before to realise its extraordinary potential.”

Professor Mark Spearing, Vice-Chancellor (Interim) commented:

“All of University Executive Board and Council are immensely grateful to Ian for his passion for Southampton, for his dedication, for his consummate professionalism at all times, and for his inspiring leadership of our Professional Services. He has helped ensure our University is well placed to both weather and take advantage of these challenging times. And we’re all a little envious of his future plans.”
