The new edition of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020, was published in The Sunday Times on September 22. It provides rankings for UK universities and a comprehensive overview of higher education in Britain.
We are ranked #20 and there is much to celebrate in the rankings – we improved on many metrics including ‘Student experience’, 13 places to #61 and ‘Teaching quality’, 2 places to #83, both based on National Student Survey (NSS). The Good University Guide is the first league table to use the latest NSS results, so improvements on these metrics reflect the rise of c.1 percentage point in NSS 2019 – and also point towards improvements in next year’s Complete University Guide and Guardian University Guide which will use NSS 2019.
Five of the underlying metrics improved in rank:
- Student experience +13 to #61
- Services/facilities spend +12 to #50
- Entry standards +6 to #26
- Firsts/2:1s +5 to #18
- Teaching quality +2 to #83
Subjects
Fourteen subjects improved their position this year (by an average of 3.9 places).
Physiotherapy remains at #1.
