Staff Partnership Charter signed

In June, following a successful workshop between University senior management and the recognised campus trade unions (UCU, Unite and Unison), a joint statement was issued to all staff.

Within that joint statement, the University and campus trade unions committed to enter into a joint Partnership Charter which would form the basis of our engagement with each other and with the wider staff community.

Following discussions over the summer, the joint Partnership Charter was signed by Mark Spearing, interim President and Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the University and the branch representatives for UCU, Unite and Unison.

Building on from the work done to create the Partnership Charter, further work will now take place around our shared priorities, joint working protocols and communications.

Following the signing, Mary Morrison from UCU said:

“This is an excellent opportunity to rebuild a productive, respectful working relationship between UCU and University management, for the good of our members and the University as a whole.”

Gwen Gordon from Unison said:

“Unison looks forward to a vibrant working relationship with the university senior management team. We will embrace future challenges with positivity and unity.”

Alistair Dilworth from Unite said:

“This is a great opportunity for us to work together in a respectful manner and make the university an employer of choice.”

Jeremy Gautrey, Head of Employee and Industrial Relations said:

“This Partnership Charter commits us all to work together in building a lasting partnership built on trust, openness, honesty and integrity where leaders from all parties will role model our values and behaviours. Our trade unions have an important role to play in representing our staff, ensuring that we encourage a two-way communication.”
