Southampton placed as world top 100 university by US News & World Report

We’re delighted to once again report that our University is placed among the world’s top 100 institutions, this time in the 2020 Best Global Universities rankings published by US News & World Report.

Our University is ranked 94th overall (jointly with the University of Geneva), placing 10th among UK universities and joint 33rd among European institutions. Joining us in the top 100 are some of our key US partners, including UC San Diego and the University of Washington.

The US News & World Report rankings feature 1,500 universities across 81 countries, and were evaluated on 13 indicators that measure academic research performance as well as global and regional reputation.

Across 24 subject areas where Southampton is ranked, there are ten where we feature in the top 100, including Mechanical Engineering where we place 44th. Other global top 100 subject placings include Electrical and Electronic Engineering (52nd), Geosciences (58th); Physics (62nd); Surgery (81st); Social Sciences and Public Health (joint 84th); Immunology (joint 84th); Computer Science (91st); Clinical Medicine (95th) and Engineering (joint 95th).
