A message from Kieron Broadhead, Executive Director of Student Experience:
Dear Colleagues and Students,
I’m delighted to announce two excellent appointments that have been made within the Student Experience Directorate.
Both these individuals will help to drive forward our vision for student experience here at Southampton, help to strengthen and expand our current offering, and truly exemplify our strategy and commitment, to putting students at the heart of all that we do.
Director of Global Recruitment & Admissions
David Winstanley will join our University on 6 February 2020 as Director of Global Recruitment & Admissions. He currently works at SOAS, University of London where he is Director of Marketing, Recruitment & Admissions.
David has significant experience in roles within recruitment and admissions in higher education institutions. The panel were impressed with the depth of David’s knowledge and also his track-record of success. I am confident he will be a real asset to our University.
On his appointment, David said:
“I’m hugely excited to be joining the University of Southampton in the new year, and bringing together admissions, recruitment, international relations and conversion in this new role. I look forward to working with the team and with academic colleagues in ensuring the most talented and ambitious students from across the world apply to and enrol at Southampton.”

Gino Graziano will join our University on 12 February 2020 as Director of Widening Participation & Social Mobility.
Gino’s is an exciting new role that will be responsible for leading our work in the widening participation and social mobility space, in particular the work in delivering our Access and Participation Plan.
Gino joins us from Sussex where he is currently Head of UK Recruitment and Widening Participation. He has over 17 years’ experience in roles within widening participation.

“I am very excited to be joining the University of Southampton as Director of Widening Participation and Social Mobility.
“My appointment has come at a time of great challenge and opportunity for the sector. I see this role as a great chance to approach widening participation as a holistic lifecycle and really make a difference to the experience of students from underrepresented groups in a strategic way. I am very much looking forward to working with colleagues and students to realise the University’s bold ambitions, and create a fairer, more equal future.”
I hope you’ll all join me in welcoming David and Gino to our University in February.
