Today (Monday 2 December 2019), is the sixth of eight days* of strike action being undertaken by members of UCU, across 60 UK universities.
Strike action is due to continue until Wednesday 4 December 2019.
We know that all of our colleagues care deeply about the education of our students and the wider activities of our University, and we will work to minimise the impact of this action on our community.
We also recognise the rights of colleagues with union membership to undertake industrial action. It is important that all members of our community, whether striking or not, continue to engage with each other in a respectful way.
There will be a number of picket lines on our campuses and these have historically been well organised, worked within the appropriate guidelines and have not inconvenienced other staff or students from gaining access to University property.
The University will remain open throughout industrial action. Students should assume that lectures, seminars and classes are taking place as previously planned, unless they are notified otherwise.
Where we do have advance notice from colleagues that they are participating in strike action, faculties will try to inform students ahead of time. Lecturers may of course give students advance notice themselves. Please do check your module Blackboard site and your relevant faculty hub on Blackboard. Students can also talk to colleagues in their Student Offices and they will continue to have access to support services.
Staff and students can use our Information Hub if they have any questions about industrial action or action short of a strike.
* Strike action took place on 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29 November 2019 and is due to continue on 2, 3, 4 December 2019.
