My Generation Career Coaching

Are you the first person in your family, other than your siblings, to go to university?

If so you are a “First Generation” student. At the University of Southampton Careers and Employability Service we recognise your unique perspective and skills because of your background. We also believe in working to achieve fair graduate employment outcomes in the contemporary labour market.

My Generation Career Coaching can help you to clarify your goals and improve your career planning skills. You can be coached to make outstanding job applications and improve performance at interviews as well as getting help to expand your professional network along the way.

The My Generation Career Coaching programme offers a safe, non-judgemental environment to help you find your own solutions. Benefits include:

  • 12-month intensive career support
  • Set and achieve career goals through career planning
  • Improve your application and interview techniques
  • Make the most of work experience opportunities
  • Coaching from qualified/experienced Career Practitioners
  • Programme Structure
  • 1 hour welcome and training session
  • 6 x 1 hour confidential career coaching sessions over 12 months
  • On-going two-way communication via email with your career coach
  • Use of the Career Readiness Test throughout the career coaching year to track your development and progress

Eligibility

To be eligible for My Generation Career Coaching you much be the first person in your family, other than siblings, to attend university and a UK undergraduate student.
