Lecture: Corruption as a Violation of Human Rights in India

On Human Rights Day, Tuesday 10 December, Southampton’s India Centre for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development, and the Southampton Law School invite you to learn more about human rights in India.

Professor (Dr) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University will visit Southampton to present a lecture on Corruption as a Violation of Human Rights in India.

The talk will focus on the relationship between corruption and human rights and to what extent domestic law and international law, including human rights, ought to influence national efforts in the fight against corruption.  It will critically examine from a comparative and international law perspective the legal and institutional approaches in the fight against corruption, and the growth and development of the right to information in India for creating greater transparency and accountability in governance.

Professor Kumar will discuss the contemporary civil society initiatives and social movements in India to develop legislative measures and independent institutional mechanisms, including the establishment of the Lokpal, an independent commission against corruption (ICAC) similar to that of Hong Kong and Singapore to eliminate corruption.

Professor Kumar is a prolific public speaker with an outstanding global reputation for his passion for higher education.  To find out more about this event and reserve a ticket, go to its Eventbrite page.
