HEi-Know – the new higher education information and analysis platform

The University has arranged for all its staff and students to have access to HEi-know, the higher education intelligence service from Media FHE.

HEi-know helps senior managers, academics, professional staff, governors and students keep abreast of developments in the HE sector by providing timely summaries of key reports, as well as analysis, news, opinion articles, and a searchable calendar of forthcoming events and reports. All reports and articles are written either by highly-experienced professional national/international-level education journalists or HE professionals and academics.

How to access the service:

  • HEi-know can be accessed from any Southampton University campus-based computer here.
  • In addition, any member of staff or student wishing to have off-campus remote access (e.g. via tablets and laptops) plus controllable customised email alerts with the option of a Weekly and/or Daily Update newsletter can get a free login and account here.

Features and benefits:

  • If you need to know what an important, HE-related report really has to say, but don’t have time to read it, the Briefing Reports are for you, delivering timely, spin-free, easy-to-digest summaries of key reports on HE issues. There is also a searchable archive going back as far as the Browne Review in 2010 – so if you are trying to remember the key points of a past report, you can quickly and easily find them. (Further reading on Briefing Reports here).
  • For strategic planning and preparation for meetings and conferences, HEi-know’s HE Insight Papers, examining important HE developments and trends, should prove invaluable.
  • When you are looking for best practice inspiration and ideas for development, you can turn to the Good Practice Briefings with case studies looking at how different institutions are responding to emerging challenges and opportunities in the sector.
  • Stay on top of the conversation on topical HE issues with the HEi-think opinion articles from leading figures in the sector.
  • A quick and easy way to keep abreast of the latest HE news and how it is presented across a range of media is provided in HEi-know’s live HE News Roundup, updated daily. The most comprehensive of its kind, this also includes some stories generated by HEi-know.
  • Be ready for important reports and events, and plan attendance at conferences with the HEi-planner forward planning calendar of forthcoming HE events and reports – also helpful for planning of comms and marketing activities.
  • Start the day up to speed on HE news, views and developments with HEi-know’s Weekly (Mondays) and Daily (Tuesday-Friday) Update newsletter providing a briefing on important HE events/reports/news stories at 8am each weekday morning. In according with new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements, you must opt in to receive the Monday Weekly Update newsletter and Tuesday-Friday Daily Update newsletter. You can opt to receive both, just one, or neither newsletters.
