Many of us will be leaving campus and halls over the festive period, but the University’s buildings will still be consuming a large amount of energy. While some of this is essential, we can all play a part in keeping it as low as possible.
Before you leave your offices and halls of residences this month, consider:
– Have you switched off computers, monitors and printers
– Have you unplugged any chargers
– Have you closed windows tightly
– Have you switched off unnecessary lights
We will reduce ventilation, cooling and heating wherever possible, and we’ll make sure the LED Christmas lights on Highfield Campus are switched off every evening, too.
The University spent more than £9,000,000 on utility bills last year. We’re investing in changes to keep this as low as possible and reduce our environmental impact. In 2019 this has included an efficient new chiller in the Life Sciences building, new solar energy generation at Boldrewood and a pilot awareness campaign in three locations.
Alongside these investments, we rely on your small, everyday actions to continually improve. Find out more on our Sustainability website or by emailing [email protected]
