There’s still time for doctoral researchers to enter this year’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) 2020 competition, but hurry! Entry closes on Friday 24 January.
Three Minute Thesis 2019 Finalists
With only one PowerPoint slide and no additional props, the Three Minute Thesis competition challenges doctoral researchers to be clear, compelling and, above all, concise as they deliver a spoken presentation on their research topic in a mere three minutes.
Taking part in 3MT is a great opportunity for researchers to hone their communication skills, as it encourages them to think about 1) the importance of your research (why they are doing it and for whom/what) and 2) how to communicate those things effectively and engagingly to a general audience. Even if their three minute presentation does not win the competition, they will be able to use it in all sorts of other contexts.
Organised at Southampton by the Doctoral College as a part of a wider global initiative, postgraduate researchers are first entered into a Faculty heat, with the six winners of these heats then going on to compete in the University Grand Final in May this year.
