Coronavirus: current advice from Public Health England 23 January 2020

Colleagues will probably have seen national media reporting about an outbreak of a new strain of respiratory virus, known as Coronavirus, which has spread within several Chinese provinces, the US, Thailand and South Korea.

This is still a new and rapidly evolving situation where information is being gathered and assessed daily by Public Health England. Based on the current available evidence, the current risk to the UK is considered to be low.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has recently updated its website, and advises that there should be no travel to the city of Wuhan in China, unless it is essential.

Any staff and students travelling to or from affected areas should keep checking the Public Health England and Foreign and Commonwealth Office webpages for the most up-to-date advice and information on how they can take precautions.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely, and will take note of any guidance by Public Health England and other health authorities.
