On Thursday 30 January, Student Inclusion will be holding an informal drop-in for Student Carers at the University in support of Young Carers Awareness Day. This national campaign from the Carers Trust aims to highlight the difficulties and challenges carers can face.
This year’s campaign centres on identifying those with caring responsibilities and is titled #CountMeIn. Juggling these responsibilities alongside their studies can be challenging, so we’d like to hear from our Student Carers and ask them to help us shape the support they may need.
Some students may not regard themselves as being an official carer, their caring role might only be a short-term commitment, like looking after someone who’s been involved in an accident or, it could be an ongoing, long term responsibility such as caring for someone with an illness or a disability. Examples of caring responsibilities could also include looking after a sibling, parent or grandparent, providing emotional support or providing physical care.
Whatever level of care you provide, we’d like to invite all our Student Carers to join us in the Centenary Building (B100), Room 5013 between 13:00 – 15:00 on 30 January for the opportunity to meet current students with caring responsibilities, as well as third party organisations who offer support and guidance to carers.
If you’d like to make the University aware of your caring responsibilities, or provide suggestions anonymously on how we develop our support package for student carers, please fill in the form here. Additionally, if you’d like any further information, please email [email protected]
