The University has passed an extensive audit of our Environmental Management System, which looks at how our day-to-day operations in terms of compliance and measures we have put in place to improve our environmental performance.
The audit, which takes place every year, means we have retained our ISO14001 certification, the international standard for implementing and operating an environment management system.
The auditor noted:
“Throughout the site tour, the level of maintenance and housekeeping was of a very high standard. Also, a very high level of commitment across the whole organisation, with very good energy controls and new initiatives within procurement.”
Nicola Turvey, Environment & Sustainability Manager commented:
“This is an excellent result for the University. The auditor also praised the cross-departmental communication which is very good because it’s this transparency which is so important when it comes to environmental improvements. It demonstrates how people are talking to each and learning through best practice.”
“These audits are very important for us as a University. Academics use these certifications on research grant applications to make them even more competitive and we know that both our current and prospective students are very interested in what we are doing to limit our impact on the environment.”
