Southampton ISOC Raises over £22,000 in two weeks

Today is Refreshers’ Fair held by SUSU. If you want to join a club, society or team, you are bound to find something today!

Tajwar Choudhury, a PhD student in Chemical Artificial Intelligence, got in touch to tell us about the University of Southampton Islamic Society and Charity Week!

“The University of Southampton Islamic Society, or ISOC takes part in an annual initiative known as Charity Week. The goal is simple: to raise as much money as possible in the space of two weeks, between the October 21 2019 and November 8 2019.

“100% of the money goes to Islamic Relief, one of the biggest charities in the UK. There are several projects the charity is aiming to fund, namely Cancer care for children in Gaza and Education for young girls in Afghanistan, to name a few.

“Over the two weeks the ISOC held numerous fundraising activities, including various stalls on Redbrick, selling cakes, donuts and even cacti! Other events such as games nights, a fun-day at the local Abu Bakr Mosque and a formal dinner where a cake auctioned for £5,000, all contributed to the massive total achieved at the end of the two weeks.

“A lot of the donations came online through Everyday Hero, amounting to over £9,000! We won’t stop because Charity Week is over, we are continuing our charitable efforts later this academic year when about 40 of the ISOC members will be climbing Mount Snowdon.”
