Goodbye GroupSite 2010 and Thank You

In 2019, it was announced that Groupsite 2010 would be decommissioned by January 2020.

The Office 365 project team would like to take this opportunity to say Thank You to all those involved in moving content away from Groupsite.  2,970 GroupSites have now been suspended, and if still required, migrated to SharePoint Online.

We are now on a fully supported and significantly upgraded platform.

Rachel Webb from Finance said: “Moving the existing intranet site across to SharePoint Online was a straightforward process and it also gave us an opportunity to review the site contents and streamline where necessary.

“The new pages have a more professional look and feel compared to the SharePoint 2010 version, due to the ease in which pages, layouts, images and links are created and maintained”

Christine Trotter from HR said: “We are really pleased that with a great team effort from site owners, administrators and iSolutions, HR were able to migrate 100% of our Group Sites to SharePoint online within the timeframe. We took the opportunity to review structures and content, archiving older information, and now have a strengthened governance in place to help our large and diverse team engage better with each other and access key information.

“We are looking forward to using the skills gained through this project as we look to introduce Teams and further improve our cross-team, cross-site interaction to get better connected, better informed and more efficient”

The next focus for the Office 365 project will be the retirement of Skype for Business, and the introduction of the chat and virtual meetings functionality on the new supported platform – Microsoft Teams.

Mal Allerton, Executive Director for iSolutions said: “Thanks again for your hard work and support in this task, a very collegiate effort by all.”

The project will soon be communicating widely about Microsoft Teams and how we can support you in adopting the new functionality it offers.
