In recent years, the concern for our environment has risen and people are becoming ever more conscious with their carbon footprints, plastic consumption and circular economies. Amongst all the frenzy, a silent killer is taking over our planet. The monster that is electronic waste.
E-Waste comprises 70% of our overall toxic waste and currently only 12.5% of e-Waste is recycled. With over 40 million tons of electronic waste produced each year, this is not a mythical monster. But this monster does not have to be terrifying. That is why SÓN Orchestra are tackling this crisis in a fun and inventive junket!
Robin Browning, artistic director of SÓN, comments: “The subject of electronic waste, the planet and global environment is more important than ever, so this is an incredibly powerful project.”
From songs of Bob the iPhone to the Monster Electric robot rap, SÓN and 85 youngsters from Otterbourne Primary explore it all in a brand new 25-minute piece filled with songs, rap, music and imagery about e-Waste and its impact on the world today. The performance is in partnership with the University of Southampton’s Science and Engineering Festival (Sotsef) and will be sparking its artistry (tomorrow) Saturday 7 March 2020 at The Cube, University of Southampton.
Wondering what happens when you fuse the wires of global environmental issues with eighty electrified children?
Robin Browning reflects: “This band of children have been incredibly inspiring to work with, they’ve reminded me of why I became a musician in the first place! They’re generally committed to the whole performance; they believe in it and have brought the whole school along with them on the journey.”
Tickets are still available for reservation for the performance at 14:30.
