Students and staff are invited to make nominations for the awards of honorary degrees and fellows to be awarded during graduation ceremonies in 2021. This year’s deadline for nominations is close of business on Wednesday, 22 April.
Often, the question is – who should I nominate?
In recent years, our university has awarded honorary degrees to world leaders, innovators in science, health and technology, and respected colleagues from university partners around the world.
Three years ago, we honoured a Dorset plumber turned world-renowned fossil collector and palaeontologist who never thought that he would be addressing a room of university graduates as recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Science.
“It feels quite extraordinary to receive an Honorary Doctorate; it’s well out of my remit when you think about my background,” said Steve Etches, curator of the Etches Collection in Kimmeridge whose ceremony was held in July, 2017. “I didn’t go to university. I should have but I was a late developer – still late developing now – and I’ve done it on the back of running a business as well so the sky’s the limit.”
Further information on how to make nominations, including access to the criteria and the nomination form, is available on the Honorary degrees/Fellow SharePoint site.
