Reminder: Ride to Work Week 2020 – win one of seven bikes and other great prizes!

Join Ride to Work Week from Monday 23 – Sunday 29 March and be in with a chance of winning a new bike.

The initiative is run by Love to Ride who work with government, local authorities and workplaces to get more people on bikes.

They’ve got a brand new bike to give away every day from 23-29 March and everyone who rides all, or part of the way to work, will be entered into the draw to win.

Adam Tewkesbury, Associate Director, Environment & Sustainability says:

“I would encourage staff to get involved in Ride to Work Week, if they can. It’s a great opportunity to feel happier, healthier, wealthier and reduce pollution and congestion on our campuses. You could win a bike too!

“Make sure you join our workplace team so that your rides count towards our Ride to Work Week stats. If you register by Monday 16 March you’ll go into an early bird draw to win a Laserlight from Beryl.

“Don’t forget there’s lots of support on our campuses for our cyclists: we’ve got a good network of cycle paths; secure cycle stores; showers and a Bike Doctor visits the Red Brick on Friday 29 April 10:00 – 14:00 and every other week on a Friday thereafter, so just turn up and get your bike checked and tuned for FREE.”

Kelly Aubrey is Health and Wellbeing Adviser in the Directorate of Health Safety and Risk. She comments:

“Exercise releases adrenalin and endorphins and can boost your mood. Cycling combines physical exercise with being outdoors. You can ride solo – giving you time to process worries or concerns, or you can ride with a group which broadens your social circle.

Cycling raises your heart rate and gets the blood pumping round your body. Consequently, it’s a form of exercise recommended by the NHS as one of the ways to cut your risk of developing illnesses such as heart disease.”
