Our University is aware of a recent incident of abuse, targeting members of our student community from China. As a result, the Police have taken action to identify and arrest those involved.
We condemn these activities and wish to reiterate and reaffirm our University’s solidarity with our Chinese community.
As a University, we have an inclusive culture, free from discrimination and based on the values of dignity, courtesy and respect. We recognise the right of every person to be treated in accordance with these values.
We are also very proud of Southampton’s culturally diverse history, which is an important part of our city’s identity. The city, which has long been noted for its friendliness, has a longstanding Chinese community – individuals and families who have contributed significantly to the city and its vibrant culture for many years.
