Level 4-6 appraisals: window open until 31 May

Staff should have regular contact with their line managers during the pandemic and the appraisal meeting, which in many cases will be virtual, is another opportunity to keep in touch and provide support.

The appraisal window has been open from January and closes at the end of May by which time all level 4-6 staff should have:

  • Discussed their contribution during 2019, recognising objectives that were met or exceeded and those which were not met
  • Completed and recorded their appraisal online
  • Discussed and agreed objectives for 2020

A good quality appraisal conversation ensures an employee’s wellbeing is at the heart of the discussion.

When setting objectives for 2020 it is important to take account of the impact COVID-19 may be having on staff members personal circumstances as well as their work. Explore the current priorities and if appropriate those that may be required in the longer term. To ensure no-one is disadvantaged, appraisers and appraisees should set realistic and achievable objectives, remember they can be reviewed and amended if needed at a later stage.

Remember to also allow time to discuss personal development and career aspirations.

Detailed appraisal process guidance is available on the Appraisal Guidance on SharePoint pages. If you have any queries, please contact: AskHR.
