Pay increase for our lower-paid employees

The University will this month implement base pay increases for over 450 of our lower-paid employees, boosting hourly rates payable at Southampton to a point above the current Living Wage Foundation rate of £9.30 per hour. The changes will be backdated to 1 April 2020.

These changes have been agreed with UNISON and Unite following positive discussions over the winter, and a successful ballot of their members affected by the proposed change in March and April.

The move will see the University introduce a revised pay scale, which will now start at spine point 6 (£9.42 per hour), with associated changes to the pay ranges for Levels 1a, 1b and 2a. Affected employees will receive letters shortly explaining what these changes mean for them individually.

Our revised pay scales can be found here.
