Since Monday 23 March, our University moved to remote working, lectures and assessments moved online, and the world went digital. Of course, we can’t forget those who couldn’t work remotely, such as our excellent health and care frontline staff and students, and those keeping our campuses safe!
Weekly Zoom quizzes with family and friends became the norm, the news filled with various bookcase backgrounds, and many of us took to TikTok. A lot of information has been sent to you via various channels and published on our FAQs, so we want to make sure some of the key University headlines were not missed.
2020 – 21 Academic Year
The Vice-Chancellor announced that we will be welcoming as many new and returning UG students from the UK and around the world as possible to our campuses on 28 September 2020.
We are aiming to provide a significant face-to-face component to your education as conditions at the time allow, combined in our new blended approach with active independent and group online learning.
We would like to remind you that these are complex issues and we – like the Government – do not have all the answers yet. We expect to be able to provide greater clarity to you as soon as possible.
Marks Release
Module marks and degree classifications will be accessible for students on Thursday 23 July 2020.
The week following marks release will be Guidance Week, where you will be able to raise questions about what your marks mean for you and you’ll be advised on your personal situation.
If you are part of the following programmes, all UG Medicine, PGT Allergy, PGT Genomic Medicine, MRes Stem Cells, Development and Regenerative Medicine and Medicine iPhD (first year taught), WSA programmes in Dalian, PGCE, All Health Sciences programmes, your marks will be released at a different time. This will be confirmed as soon as possible.
Degree Classification
The Degree Classification and No Detriment Policy was sent to our students on Tuesday 26 March. You can read the full email for further information.
We also encourage you to take a look at the FAQs page on the No Detriment and Classification Policy, as well as Rationale for not including Semester 2 marks in Part averages.
Collecting your belongings
If you departed halls early due to COVID-19, you should have been sent an email by the Residences Team outlining the process to safely collect your belongings. The email will let you know how to go about booking a collection slot.
You can read the full FAQs here.
Graduation
Unfortunately, we’ve had to postpone our July 2020 ceremonies and at this moment we can’t offer any alternative dates. But we’d like to reassure you that everyone who would have been invited to this July’s ceremonies will be invited to attend a physical ceremony in the future. We are very much looking forward to celebrating your remarkable achievements with you when it is safe to do so.
You can read further FAQs on graduation here.
Student Exchange
The University has suspended all physical international mobility for Semester 1 2020 – 2021 due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This applies to both incoming and outgoing student exchange and placements.
If you have any questions about student exchange, please get in touch with the Study Abroad Team via email: [email protected]
