Our newest showcase facility for learning and teaching has been shortlisted for a 2020 RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) South Award.
The nine-storey Centenary Building, which opened in September 2019, was designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios. Named in celebration of 100 years of teaching on our Highfield Campus, the Building boasts an impressive range of features including independent study spaces with fantastic views across the campus and the city, an 80-seat Harvard lecture theatre, an MBA suite, numerous private pod study spaces, bookable seminar rooms and large flat-floored teaching spaces.
The RIBA awards recognise and celebrate outstanding architecture in the UK and are given for good design and sustainability, regardless of budget or typology.
Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith said:
“I’m very pleased to see our Centenary Building named as one of the outstanding new structures in the UK which is testament to the many people from our Estates and Facilities team who have made this major facility a reality for the benefit of our students.
“The Centenary Building is unique within our university community, providing a contemporary focal point for our Highfield Campus and many flexible spaces where our world-leading educational offering can benefit so many, especially in these uncertain times where the Building’s adaptability will truly come to bear in the months ahead.”
Winners of regional and national RIBA Awards will be announced later this year.
