Improving the way we work – an update from iSolutions

Building upon the successful deployment of Office 365, the introduction of Microsoft Teams and encouraged by how well our staff and students have adapted their ways of working in an ever-changing environment, iSolutions is currently working on three more strategic projects.

As part of the University’s major strategic project portfolio, these projects are designed to deliver easier ways of working and provide a more secure online environment by reducing the number and complexity of IT systems and increasing the coordination of data and information between faculties and professional services.

Each project will benefit you and the University in a number of ways:

The Cyber security project will improve the way we protect the University’s sensitive data and information, and protect staff and students from unwanted intrusion, phishing, scams and cyber-attacks by:

  • Providing a comprehensive security training, awareness and adoption program for all staff and students.
  • Supporting the University to achieve external security accreditation, essential for our work with external agencies.
  • Implementing technical security controls and monitoring software on all devices connected to the University network to keep staff and students safe.

The Information Management project will improve the way information and data is managed, stored and used within the University by:

  • Making it easier for staff to store, find, use and cleanse data.
  • Improving the way we locate, manipulate and share datasets between colleagues
  • Improving the University’s ability to act on areas of risk e.g. duplication, data definitions, non-compliance with regulations

The CRM project will provide a single system to collate and record student data across the University by:

  • Allowing the University to significantly improve the experience of students and applicants by providing them with facilities to communicate and engage with the University. For example through self-service, raising enquiries, receiving targeted and relevant communications about issues that are important to them.
  • Giving staff access to modern tools to enable them to more effectively support students throughout their University experience.
  • Providing the University, the technology needed to support the transformation for students that will be delivered through the Modernising Student Experience programme.

Mal Allerton, Executive Director for iSolutions said: “We are continually looking at improving and transforming our IT systems and services to support all our staff and students. These projects will transform the way the University works and provide our staff with efficient systems and services along with training and guidance to keep our data safe and secure”.

Further information regarding these three key projects and how they will affect staff and students across the University will be available as the work progresses.
