Palaeontologists from our University who have been studying four bones found on the Isle of Wight last year have confirmed that they are likely to belong to a Genus of dinosaur previously unknown to science.
This new discovery, the Vectaerovenator inopinatus, belongs to the group of dinosaurs including the Tyrannosaurus rex and modern day birds. Watch the video to find out more and learn what inspired the species’ name.
Chris Barker, a PhD student at our University, led the study which has captured the media’s attention already. Nearly 1000 pieces across 30 countries worldwide have been published, including broadcast media in the US.
In the UK the story has appeared in the Sun (with the headline Isle of Bite) and Telegraph as well as being the fourth most read story on the BBC website. The story also appeared on BBC News Channel and National ITV News at 10, as well as local BBC and ITV outlets around the country.
Find out more about the discovery in our press release.
