In response to requests from numerous areas of the University, from September, iSolutions are changing how staff and PGR names are displayed in Outlook.
Currently staff within the University have their name recorded in the central directory as ‘last name followed by initials’ (e.g. Smith W) – this is called the ‘display name’. This display name is what is seen when searching in the Microsoft Outlook address book. From 1 September this will be changed to ‘preferred name followed by preferred last name’ (e.g. Will Smith).
Please note, this will not affect your University email address, only the way it is displayed in certain applications.
The result of this means that user William Smith previously would have displayed as Smith W., will now display as William Smith. If this person preferred to be called Will, then they could set their preferred name and be displayed as Will Smith.
For further details on an individual in Outlook, right click on their name and select properties and it will show all contact details and department etc. This will allow you to distinguish between two or more people with the same name.
Staff and PGRs will also be able to set a preferred last name via Subscribe. iSolutions are also working with HR to look at options to populate the ‘job title’ field in the directory as part of this change. We cannot confirm details at this time, but more information will appear in the knowledge base link below.
iSolutions will be making this change from 1 September 2020.
Further information regarding this change can be found in this knowledge base article.
