Invitation to cyclists to take part in a research study

Are you a cyclist who would like to develop your road safety awareness when interacting with drivers on the road?

If you are, then the University of Southampton Transportation Research Group is running a research project that might interest you. Funded by the Road Safety Trust and in partnership with Cycling UK, the project offers an online, self-directed, training course aimed at increasing participants’ knowledge and skills when interacting with drivers on the road.

If you take part in the study you will be asked to complete a short pre-training questionnaire (taking about 10 minutes) and will be sent log-in details to access the course, which you can complete in your own time. Afterwards you will be asked to complete a post-training questionnaire and a six-week post training questionnaire. You will also be invited to participate in a driver simulation training session as soon as the TRG is able to run it. You will receive a £10 Amazon voucher upon completion and will also be entered into a raffle to win one of two £50 Amazon vouchers.

If enhancing your road safety skills sounds of interest, and you are a cyclist who never or rarely drives, then please get in touch with the research team by emailing Joy Richardson at [email protected].

Over the last few months the TRG has also been running a similar course for drivers. If you are reading this and would like to participate in the driver course then please do contact Joy.
