Tony Whitmore from iSolutions is appointed new non-academic member of University Council

The University Council has appointed Tony Whitmore, Head of IT Portfolio in iSolutions, as the new non-academic member of our governing body.

Tony will replace Adrian Reyes-Hughes, Associate Director of Faculty Operations, who stepped down from his position in July this year.

As Head of IT Portfolio, Tony leads teams of project specialists who help the University improve the way it works, through the appropriate use of technology. He is also a member of iSolutions’ Senior Management Team and interim Manager of the Design and Print Centre.

Asked what motivated him to apply for the position, Tony replied:

“I am passionate about universities in general, and this University in particular. We have a fantastic diversity of research and teaching activities, and great opportunities to build on recent and past successes. I applied for the role as I am eager to make a bigger contribution towards the way the University runs and I’m looking forward to my first Council meeting in September.”

Reflecting on the appointment, Philip Greenish, Chair of Council said:

“The panel convened by the Council Nominations Committee interviewed all eight applicants (four women and four men) for the single position of non-academic member of the University Council. The applicants came from a range of roles across the University and all applications were very well-presented.

“In a strong field, the panel was particularly impressed by Tony Whitmore who showed in his responses to our questions a very clear understanding of the role of Council and of the issues that Council has to address. He was our unanimous choice for this important role and we expect him to add real value to Council.”
