Strategic Major Projects update

The University’s 10-Year Plan Portfolio has been renamed the Strategic Major Projects Portfolio. This reflects a broader vision of our strategy, enables us to move away from the original time constraint of 2016-2026 and allows us to respond with agility to the rapidly-changing world around us.  In light of COVID-19, UEB together with the Change Portfolio Office have reviewed and re-prioritised the projects and programmes to ensure that the portfolio focuses on the longer-term ambitions of the University whilst also supporting delivery of the Bridging Strategy.

Due to the financial impact of COVID-19, the on-going and upcoming work has been evaluated to ensure that it is providing the best cost-effectiveness at this time. We have also responded to changes in immediate demand and refocused the scope of some projects, such as Inspiring Learning Spaces; others have had their timelines extended to manage costs effectively.

Some of the projects within the portfolio have continued as originally planned, such as the World Rankings project, leading to a rise of seven places in the latest QS rankings; and OneWeb, which has delivered improvements in the performance and engagement with the new user-centric content on our undergraduate web pages and is now progressing to postgraduate pages.

Projects such as those within the Education Programme have been re-focused to provide immediate support and deliver against the challenges COVID-19 presents. The Education Programme has prioritised supporting the delivery of the 20-21 academic year, from curriculum planning, through transitions, to enhancing academic support and delivery. The work on this continues at pace, and you can read some of the updates regarding this programme in our Preparing for teaching and Supporting transitions in 20/21 articles.

Mandy Fader updated the Senior Leaders on the progress so far and next steps at a Senior Leaders’ Forum on 12 August. You can see updates on all the Strategic Major Projects on the Strategy SharePoint which will be regularly updated as work progresses.
