Congratulations to the ERGOnauts team which has been shortlisted for this year’s Times Higher Education Awards in the category Technical or Digital Innovation of the Year.
The team, comprised of colleagues form Research and Innovation Services (RIS) and iSolutions, has made an outstanding contribution to improving efficiency and reducing the administrative burden of the ethical review and approval of research through the design and implementation of the University’s second-generation online ethics review system – called ERGO II.
The planning, design and build of ERGO II was conducted using agile development methodology, with the ERGOnauts focusing on user engagement throughout involving the research community, Faculty Ethics Committee reviewers and students at all stages of the scoping, design and build. Over 10,000 submissions have been approved through ERGO II since its original release to all faculties.
“We’re delighted to be shortlisted for a Times Higher Education Award for this vital project,” said Diana Galpin, Head of Technology Transfer & Impact and Chair of the ERGO II development project. “As an institution committed to supporting high quality and responsible research, ERGO II has entirely transformed our approach to the ethical review and approval of research across the University. We have demonstrated that good governance doesn’t have to be bureaucratic.”
The ERGOnauts, previous winners of a Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Administrative and Operational Efficiency, will learn if they are successful in the Times Higher Education Awards during an online ceremony on Thursday, 26 November.
