National Inclusion week: Best Practice example from SOTSEF

Southampton Science and Engineering Festival (SOTSEF) is the University’s annual festival which has been running since 2002.

It began its life as a one-day free event at Highfield Campus and grown to be attended by thousands of people.  The Festival Team, part of the Public Engagement with Research unit (PERu), work tirelessly to ensure the best possible experience is attained by everyone involved, including volunteers and visitors and easy access to all. These support provisions can be found on their website.

Hear from Silvia Lanati about her inspiration behind making events accessible:

The SOTSEF case study provides an insight into the the improvements made to enable easy access for all. It was also used as evidence for best practice in the DWP’s Disability Confident accreditation, which the University is submitting to renew in December 2020.  You can read more about this in our recent Staff Matters Special Edition
