The Fightback: social action vs COVID-19

The Fightback: social action vs COVID-19 is a new conversation series hosted by the Social Impact Lab and begins on Tuesday 27 October at 17:00.

Each episode will be profiling examples from around the UK and beyond of social action in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are keen to understand what forms of new social action emerged during the pandemic, what was already occurring, and how social entrepreneurs and innovators adapted to the challenges brought by COVID-19.

The first guest of the new series is Professor Sri Kandiah. Sri is a mentor, coach, counsellor and a well-being champion for the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Southampton. During the pandemic, he’s volunteered at Grace Kitchen, where he and fellow colleagues have been collecting food and toiletry donations to help feed the homeless in the Southampton and Portsmouth area. He’s also been holding wellbeing sessions since November 2019 (virtually since March) every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 on Microsoft Teams. Professor Sri has been practising mindfulness, meditation, yoga and other spiritually related activities for many years.

Make sure to join us on Tuesday 27 October, 17:00 on the Social Impact Lab Facebook page, where they’ll be talking about how the donations started, the increase in demand for food during the pandemic and Professor Sri’s hopes for the future!
