It is with deep sadness that we inform our university community that Dr John Alan Rae has passed away unexpectedly.
Alan was an adjunct faculty member in the Southampton Business School and was highly-valued and well-respected by students and staff who knew him as a jovial and proactive colleague. He will be greatly missed.
Alan studied Biochemistry at Oxford and went on to run a thriving horticulture business and IT projects before dipping his toes in the field of education. He taught Web Analytics and a number of other courses in the Business School and was also involved with the web science institute. He was always popular with students and among his dissertation supervisees.
He was a multi-talented musician and singer who played Folk, Jazz, Blues and 60s/70s/80s covers and played keyboard, acoustic guitar, mandolin and mandola. He played solo as well as with a number of groups including Newick Folk, Heavenly Blues, Kitsch n sync, Xperiment and Jazz n Dave.
Colleagues in the Business School have offered the following to remember Alan: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1251168305230932
