The Government has today announced a ‘student travel window’ from 3-9 December to allow students to travel home safely for Christmas, at the end of the current period of restrictions in England.
Universities are being asked to allocate staggered departure dates during that period, to provide voluntary COVID-19 testing for students, and to move teaching online from 9 December.
Over the coming weeks we strongly encourage students to take part in the current COVID-19 Testing Programme so that they can confidently travel home during the travel window. The testing will be available until 18 December.
We will now work through this complex new guidance, in consultation with our local public health bodies, so we can give clarity to our students and staff about the implications for students returning home in that travel window, the provision of testing, and the implications for online teaching and the end of term. We will update you with further details next week.
