Anti-Bullying Week: why is it important?

To mark Anti-Bullying Week, we have shared a series of articles and resources to help support our colleagues, from self-reflection to how to seek help. As the week wraps up, it is important for us all to remember that challenging bullying is not a one-week event, but something we should aspire to in all walks of life and each day.

Our Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark E Smith says:

“For our staff and students to achieve their very best it is vitally important that we provide a supportive and inclusive environment. To flourish and ensure we meet our aspirations as a University, we all need to feel safe wherever we are. Bullying is unacceptable and we cannot and will not tolerate any form of bullying in this University.

If you are being bullied or have witnessed bullying, I urge you to talk to someone. You will be heard and taken seriously.

There are a range of ways to let someone know what you are going through, including our highly valued group of trained harassment contacts, who can talk with you in confidence if you feel unable to talk to a senior colleague in your department.”

You can follow links to the previous articles to explore the resources, watch the video below for a useful guide on one way to provide feedback, or visit the HR page to find out more.
