On 19 December the Government announced changes to the Tier system in England, which may affect some of our staff and students.
For staff:
From the 20 December 2020 an additional layer of restrictions (Tier 4) has been introduced in England by the UK Government to assist the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. Whilst the University campuses remain in Tier 2 this will affect staff living in Tier 4 areas.
Those living in a new Tier 4 area are advised to stay within that area unless travel is absolutely essential. In line with the government guidance, University staff that live in a Tier 4 area, but are conducting essential work that cannot be done from home can continue to travel to work as normal.
It is more important than ever that all staff and students ensure they follow the COVID-secure arrangements on University campuses, offices and halls of residences. This includes ensuring face coverings are worn when moving about buildings, maintaining physical distancing and good hand hygiene practices.
Staff that can undertake their duties from home are encouraged to do so.

For students:
The UK Government and Universities Minister, Michelle Donelan, has written a letter to all university students clarifying student travel arrangements following the government announcement about Tier 4 restrictions. The letter reassures students who may not have travelled yet that they can travel home once during the period 3 December 2020 to 7 February 2021.
We are sending this letter to all students today.
