Volunteers needed to support the NHS COVID-19 vaccine roll out

The NHS across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are recruiting volunteers to support the vaccine roll out and provide valuable assistance in helping to protect our community.

There are a range of paid roles offered on a flexible basis, including outside of usual working hours to fit with your other responsibilities. Important non-clinical supporting roles will also be available.

In all roles, appropriate training, supervision and PPE will be provided to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and patients.

As a civic University we actively encourage our staff to volunteer to support the community, but it is also important that you feel comfortable doing so and ensure that this does not impact on your wellbeing. Earlier in the year we set out guiding principles for volunteering during the pandemic:

Volunteering principles

The overarching principle is that the University should do everything it can to support the national and regional response to the COVID-19 crisis, through institutional-level support.

Principle A – The University supports and encourages employees to actively volunteer for community or NHS based roles during the Covid-19 outbreak, as part of their own free time.

Principle B – The University supports and encourages those such as clinical academics who already work closely with the NHS to continue to do so and expand their involvement where considered necessary.

Principle C – The University supports any employee who wishes to volunteer for community or NHS based roles as part of their paid working day, providing they have agreed this with their line manager.

If you do wish to take part as a volunteer, please discuss this with your line manager in the first instance including all considerations, including your wellbeing.

Further information, including job roles and how to register your interest are available on the NHS site
