Five Ways to Wellbeing: Be Active

Use January as your opportunity to explore how to enhance or start a physically active lifestyle. Being active is one of the NHS’s Five Ways to Wellbeing and the great thing is it doesn’t just relate to high intensity workouts; it refers to all types of movement.

Here are 5 ways that Sport & Wellbeing can support you to kickstart your active journey:

  1. Take part in our new free, weekly sport-related activities through Be Active. Book your virtual sport session here.
  2. Why not try a fitness class via the Sport & Wellbeing Facebook page? There are two FREE live classes every weekday and also free, on-demand content on their YouTube channel.
  3. Look into joining an Athletic Union Sports Club.
  4. Plan for when lockdown is lifted by looking into signing up to the University gym and swimming facilities.
  5. Or why not set yourself the RED January challenge (run or just be active every day in January), in partnership with Sport in Mind. Do not worry if you have missed a few days, you can still start today!

Please note we have only included opportunities that currently fit within national lockdown guidelines. You can find out more on how to safely stay active from the Sport England website.

By being active you can improve your physical and mental health, quality of life and general wellbeing. It can help you to reduce anxiety, boost your energy levels and relieve tension within the body. Being active or playing sport is also a great way to socialise with a friend* or make new ones! *Please read the Sport England guidance before being active with others to ensure you are following the correct rules.

Remember when you are participating in a sport or being active that you should always work at your level of fitness only.

Be sure to keep up to date with all the latest news from Sport & Wellbeing and check out the new Be Active Facebook group for new challenges and competitions!
