20/21 welcome calendars for January new starters

Collating all the information on activities for our January starters can be a challenge in any year, but this year has brought its own unique challenges, and so a new approach has been launched.

Using the digital expertise in CHEP, bespoke interactive welcome calendars have been created for all programmes using SWAY, a Microsoft office app for making interactive reports, newsletters and more. Students will be able to find their calendars on Faculty hubs as well as receiving emails directly.

“I am impressed with the welcome calendars and I feel they will be a wonderful resource for our students. Well done!”

“Super – it looks great! Thanks for creating the welcome doc. – it looks brilliant.”

Welcome Week resources for staff

Looking forwards to Welcome Week, Programme Leaders may also be interested in this resources page. This includes suggestions and materials for activities (for example icebreakers) that you can include in your induction sessions based on good practice identified by the AY20/21 Transitions Project.

Virtually Together

We know this is a difficult time for our students and they may be wondering how the lockdown affects their university experience. We want them to know that our staff and services are here for them. Student Communications has come together with the Students’ Union (SUSU) to offer students some great free activities to get involved in during lockdown. Find out what activities are available in this guide.

Ask UoS

The purpose of Ask UoS is to highlight how we’re listening and responding to what students are saying about their experience here with us and to provide answers to their most pressing questions. Student communications will be getting in touch with students regularly via email to share answers to their questions and using our social channels to ask them what topics they’d like us to cover next.

Find out more about the Student Communications Team, including links to their key communications, on SharePoint.
