Three fantastic University of Southampton initiatives have been selected as finalists for this year’s SETsquared Awards – and they need your votes!
In addition, Sarah Rogers, Student Enterprise Manager in the Careers and Employability Service, has been nominated in the Achievement category for her work on the Catalyst Challenge.
The Business and Commercialisation Fellowships scheme has been shortlisted in the Best New Initiative category.
The scheme, funded by the ESRC and EPSRC Impact Acceleration Accounts, was introduced in 2020 to build a cohort of early career researchers to develop their skills to succeed in their careers. Through becoming embedded in Research and Innovation Services, the fellows are learning business and innovation skills to enable them to take their research to new levels.
The first group of B&C Fellows are currently seconded part-time to Research and Innovation Services. You can read their stories in the latest Re:action magazine.
The PeRSo team has been shortlisted in the Impact category.
The PeRSo, or Personal Respirator Southampton, project team includes researchers, clinicians and industry partners who collaborated to develop personal respirators for frontline medical staff faced with COVID-19.
PeRSo designed, tested and manufactured the respirator in under a month, using readily-available materials and manufacturing methods, enabling it to be manufactured globally.
The SETsquared Incubation Centre, based at Southampton Science Park, is also a finalist in the Best New Initiative category.
The Incubation Centre has responded to the needs of SETsquared clients requiring a productive place to work and scale at pace within a commercially-focused setting. It equips start-ups and early stage businesses with socially-distanced workspaces, superfast broadband, collaboration and breakout spaces, a dedicated kitchen, plus access to the onsite facilities that Southampton Science Park offers.
