New partnership for International Foundation and Pre-masters programmes

Following a seven-month procurement project, we are pleased to announce the launch of a new partnership to provide Foundation and Pre-masters programmes for international students. We will be working with Cambridge Education Group to grow the number of high-quality international students progressing onto our degrees and consequently strengthen our international community, in alignment with our University strategy.

This growth in numbers and diversity will add to the vibrancy of our University, improving the overall student experience.

Professor Alex Neill, Vice-President Education said:

We’ve partnered with Cambridge Education Group to enhance our global reach in education and attract outstanding students from across the world to the University. Students joining the pathway programmes will study a rigorous academic curriculum, whilst improving their English language proficiency and settling into the fantastic student life that the University and city of Southampton offer. We look forward to welcoming them to our community from this September

Cambridge Education Group offers specially designed pathway programmes to help students gain the English language and learning standards they need to succeed onto one of our undergraduate or master’s programmes. Cambridge Education Group opened their first centres in 2008 and have since enrolled over 20,000 students across the UK, Europe and the US.

They have pathway partnerships at a number of highly ranked global universities including the University of Amsterdam (61 in QS 2020-21 rankings), Lund University (97 in QS rankings) and University of London institutions including Queen Mary, Royal Holloway and SOAS.

Students will be taught in a newly designed International Pathway Centre located in the heart of Southampton City Centre.

Students will have access to many of the University’s services and it is our intention to ensure the pathway students feel part of the University from day one. We will work with all teams to welcome the students so that they are ready to transition to one of our undergraduate or master’s programmes from 2022. We expect the first cohort of students to commence their pathway studies with Cambridge Education Group from September 2021.
