New funding available from the University

Update: Wednesday 3 March, 17:00
Due to a high volume of applications the funding applications have now closed.
The University are launching two new funds available for you to apply to from Monday 1 March. These funds are supported by additional government funding in partnership with the University and are focused on ensuring students have access to computer equipment and internet access as well as mitigating hardship related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Online Learning Grants

We recognise students are still facing difficulties in accessing appropriate IT equipment to enable them to successfully engage with their studies online. Eligible students can therefore apply for an Online Learning Grant as a financial contribution towards these costs.

Open to all UK, EU, and International Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught and Postgraduate Research students, these grants are a non-repayable award towards the costs of essential hardware, Internet access, equipment, and accessories. We’re also broadening the criteria from previous funding rounds, and students can now apply for additional equipment which they require, including software, desks, additional memory, and other equipment students can evidence as necessary for their course. We will use set costs when making an award to ensure all students are treated equally.

Students who have previously received an Online Learning Grant are eligible to apply and will receive a ‘top up’ of funding from what they have previously received if awardedPlease be aware that funding is limited and if we are oversubscribed then we will award based on individual need.

You can access the Online Learning Grant application form here.

Hardship Grants

In addition to the impact of online studies we know that many students have struggled to cover rent, particularly those who have struggled to continue to work or find employment in lockdown.  Therefore, we are offering grants of £500 to students who have struggled to cover housing costs during this period. To apply for this grant, you need to have lived in and be paying rent or a mortgage in the UK since January 2021 however all students including international students are eligible to apply.

You can access the Housing Costs grant application form here.

We understand that some students may be struggling financially in other ways, and the Student Support Fund is still open and available for applications from all students.  You can find out more about this fund on our website and submit an application through our new online platform.

If you have any queries, please contact [email protected].

These funds are expected to close by 17:00 on Friday 5 March, however there is a finite budget and so if we see high volumes of applications, it will close earlier.
